About the Coffee Shop and Cafe

Coffee first reached the Hawaiian Islands in 1827 when King Kamehameha II received a shipment of coffee trees from England.
150 years later, Nicky Matichyn used the descendants of those first beans to build on a good idea by opening the doors here at Maui Coffee Roasters in 1982.
It all started when a group of friends became involved in a café.  The fun of the shop eventually turned into a quest to find the best coffee.  Hawaii, being the only coffee growing region in America with a reputation, became the focal point for the search of the finest beans.
Maui Coffee Roasters is committed to the highest quality of product and ensures exceptional coffee through small batch roasting of both Hawaiian and international beans at our facility in downtown Kahului.  After 30 years, we haven’t missed a beat. We’re still pouring the good stuff, and long before franchise coffee chains filtered into the islands we have been a well-loved local favorite.
